LT - most highly underrated BMW Bike
« Thread Started on Oct 26, 2007, 1:45pm »

I have been reading all the postings on the clubs web page for quite a number of years, and it seems as if the LT is not taken into consideration at all. I have now decided to blow its horn a bit, being an avid LT owner now for the past 5 years having done roughly 60 000kms so far.
Most people are scared off by its shear size and weight, but that is a total misnomer, as the bike is so well balanced that it is as nimble through any corner as any RT, GT, or whatever. We travel all over with the bike and its sheer comfort and riding pleasure cannot be described in any way that will convey the true meaning of it.
Given the chance to choose between any of the BMW models on the floor, I would at a moments notice again choose the LT, as it gives me the versatility of the bike but also the packing space of a small car. I daily commute with the bike and it is still my first vehicle of choice. Regards and safe riding. Le Roy ;D

Hi Leroy,
I must say that I have always admired the LT. However I must also admit that I am a little intimidated by its size as I find my GT as great bike but you better not stop on an uneven surface where the bike tilts a lot or loose your footing otherwise it could have some spectacular (and embarrasing) results.

The other thing that I heard was that I would not be allowed on a racing circuit during advanced rider training? Is this true or is it only some circuits that implement this rule?

Maybe I should try out one of these great machines some time!

Johan. Size does not count in this instance. As soon as you start moving the ease with with which the bike rides, handles makes you forget the size and weight. Then it is a dream come true. As mentioned I commute daily with the bike in all kinds of traffic. As with all bikes - you must just stay within the bikes and your limitations.
With regards to the training. That might be true with other training schools - not so with the BMW academy - I have attended two advanced coursed at Swartkops, including the track riding.
Do yourself a favor - book an LT for a test ride and decide for yourself. Take the wife with you - although your mind might then be made up for you. Regards and safe riding. LeRoy
