and another reason why KTM get all top finishes at DAKAR! (if they don't break down due to fuel pump problems) Mine and Mainjet's (Nico von Willich) KTM's fuelpumps failed recently on different rides) Hijack on:Scary just for the record - Winners of the Dakar: Yamaha - 9 KTM - 7 BMW - 6 Also note that KTM never won while BMW's factory team competed in the Dakar. Unfortunately they shifted their focus as they had already reached their goals. But it seems that it is a pity that Yamaha does not produce a proper D/S bike. Highjack off

Advice specific to this Run
• Valid SA Passport – No Visa required (That's now if you are a South African citizen......?) • Foreign currency (Meticais) available at travel agencies. SA Rands also work in Mozambique, but higher up it is better to have Meticais. • Insurance arrangements for own motorcycle for outside SA (make sure your bike is covered) • Malaria medicine • Certified copies of Vehicle registration papers for border crossing (Original bike licence certificate (registration certificate); if on lease/H.P. please obtain a letter from your financial institution authorizing you to go over the border. This letter must include all the bike's particulars, e.g. Engine & VIN nos.) • Certified copies of passport in case of roadblocks. • Please bring both rain suits and sun block • Swimming wear (Bikini’s!!!) / Snorkeling gear / Fishing tackle • Mosquito repellent for the braai evenings • If you have a small 12V compressor to re-inflate tires, please bring it along for your own and other riders benefit. • If you want to stay in contact, active your cell phone roaming

Hi there Moz Gsers,
I have arranged that we have our Pre-Trip get together at Bavarian Motorcycles on Thursday 10 April 2008 @ 18:00.
This will be an informal meeting to discuss all our trip details etc.
I have arranged that our Bar will be open and Bavarian’s braai is available. This will be a “Bring en Braai” so please don’t forget to bring your own picnic basket.
PS – Please don’t forget to pay your outstanding balance before 1 April 2008.
For those that have not been reading the recent news the 2nd of May is now a PUBLIC HOLIDAY!!!!!!! How's that for organizing!

Just got some feedback from Moz
The current exchange rate is 3 to 3.5 Meticas for each rand. Just be aware that there are new money 1:3 and old money 1:3000. Be careful when exchanging. The old notes which still have the three 000's are normally quit worn and easy to recognise.
The fuel price in Maputo is R12/litre and from Xai Xai it is around R14/l. So fuel your bikes before crossing the border.
The cops are also quite busy en route. Some guys counted about 38 speed radars between Maputo and Enhambane. If you exceed the speed limit you have to pay a spot fine of at least R1000.
So I guess we will be travelling very slowly and carefully!!!
