Hi Guys Great web site..what a shame there's nobody in RAS or elsewhere to write some comments. So much to talk about and so little to read.
Lets start out by discussing tyres... I've got Pilot Road on my R12 got mixed feelings, the back tends to slide a bit under heavy breaking. Any comments???

Welcome, Per, and thanks for posting.
It is indeed difficult to get a forum off the ground, as there is a certain critical mass required in terms of the number of regular visitors / posters. Of course, there are already some excellent forums that address the R1200RT, even if not exclusively. See the links page if you don't know them.
As for tyres, I used Battleaxe BT54s on my R1100RT for years, and was very happy with them. Due to the dealer being out of stock at a critical moment, I switched to BT020s and liked them even more.
I honestly couldn't tell you (without going to look) what tyres are on the R12RT, but I haven't had any trouble with them. Last week I did a very hot, high speed, heavy load trip on the RT, and they behaved perfectly. I'll check on which ones they are and will let you know.

Gandrup: I was fumbling through the BMW links and tripped upon this 1200RT site. Was happy to find my own tech tip lifted from the RT "hexheads" forum. I've had my 1200RT since April. Have put 15+K miles on it. Before that, I had an 1150RT and before that an 1100 that I put 62K miles on. I've tried a lot of tires on RTs and two stand out above the rest. The first, as you've just mentioned, is the Bridgestone 020. The rear tire is the best there is. The front is also great, but the tread pattern seems to scallop a bit which will cause it to make some noises when you tip the bike into a corner. It's a weird little noise, but doesn't hurt the handling, just proceed normally and all will be well. These are probably the best tires you can get for the mix of sport touring that most riders find. They're a bit cheaper than other tires in their class. No reason for it, in my opinion. They're top drawer. The other tire I really like is the Metzler Z6. It sticks a bit better than the 020 when you're really hauling on dry roads. Their rubber compound is amazing. Good in wet too, but the rear tire has no tread in the center. This makes it very difficult to tell when the tire is wearing out. I found out when the center of mine corded. No harm done. I rode home about 200 miles with cords showing and the tire performed flawlessly, but there is something to be said for tread wear indicators. I think about it like this. If you live in a hilly area with lots of good, curvy roads in abundance, get the Metzlers. They stick a little better and have a little more feel when leaned over. If, like me, you live in a flat place...(Chicago) and you have to ride 2 or 300 miles to get to decent back roads, get the 020s. Chances are, you'll be wearing out the center of the rear tires first despite your best efforts. The 020s seem to last just a bit longer, although it's really a pretty close race on that point. Dunlop makes a D220 sport touring tire. I bought a set when they first came out. I found them to be heavier than other tires and their response was not as good. I expected them to last a long while, but the rear corded in less than 5K miles. I won't be buying those again. The Pirelli Scorpians I had on my Duc ST4 were pretty nice, but not exceptional. I've thought of trying Avons, but they cost so much more than other tires and I just can't bring myself to pay for something like that unless I hear that they're clearly superior. I haven't. So it's 020s or Roadtec Z6 for me. -TB

Hi Buccaneer congratulations for the site, is cool.
Just one question: does this site belongs to a motorclub, and if the answer is yes, where is this motoclub located? I can see people from many different and distant parts of the world !!
Greeting from Spain.

Greetings All! I am a recent purchaser of an'07 BMW R12RT, hungry for knowledge and riding tips. I currently reside in the Republic of Vermont, USA. We enjoy steep hills and twisties, tyre melting straights and urban traffic.
True Confessions: I rode a lot in my late teen years, nothing until now. I'm 53. But what a blast, now! Rich

Hello again, Its very quiet place here.. how looks your bikes ? What do you change in fairing or engine ? About my tires. I had Michelin PR. I've change it for Michelin PR2 and in my opinion it was excellent choice. This tires has great behavior on wet asfalts..In my previous bike (r1150rt) I've use only the Metzeler Z4 and Z6. But on r12rt the Michelin feet's the best..

Alex.. it was a spelling edit: 'quite plays' > 'quiet place' in order to read easier. Please feel free to write! Dani.
We all hope that the forum will get more active as the festive season is now over. Businesses and schools will also turn to normal soon after our long summer holiday.
