The Mozambique Trip for this year will be from the 10th to 18 June 2006.
It is confirmed: this ride is a "GS/Road" bike trip with the last 8Km of good sand road. The roads are tarred and in good condition.
We will depart from Pretoria on Saturday morning the 10th of June to CASA do CAMPO via the Komatipoort border just 6km into Mozambique. Here we will stay over for our first night and according to our host will enjoy the BEST Portuguese chicken in Mozambique with 2M (DoisM) local beers. Early Sunday morning we will depart to the tropical paradise of Ponta de Barra where will stay for 6 nights. We are planning a lot of activities during our stay in Ponta de Barra, so please check this space for more details. We will depart from Makolo Bay on the Saturday the 17th to Casa do Campo where we will again stay over and leave Sunday morning on our way back home.
Our destination is a true tropical paradise. Makolobay is situated on the estuary of Inhambane at Ponta de Barra. Kilometers of unspoilt golden beaches, breathtaking coral reefs, a fabulous lagoon and sea-life in abundance makes Makolobay an unsurpassable destination for holidaymaker and fisherman alike. Situated 530km north of Maputo and 25km from the historical town of Inhambane, access by road is a pleasant drive by tarred road which is suitable for the passage of a normal vehicle. However, the last 8km's leading to the lodge is a dirt road.
There are 120 beds available in Makolo Bay, Inhambane, consisting of
the following:
10 X 4 Sleeper casitas with 1 X Dbl and 2 X single beds and 1 bathroom.
10 X 8 sleeper chalets with 3 X Dbl and 2 X single beds and 2 bathrooms
Confirmation of reservation on a "first come, first served" basis.
All of the above rooms have fans and mosquito nets over every bed.
Situated on the beach with a 180º sea view that is ideal for whale watching from the deck, while the beaches are pristine..
Crayfish, prawns, calamari, crab and fish available in abundance on there doorstep!
For budgeting purposes you could work on the following costs;
2 x Night stay at Casa do Campo (10/17 June) @ R150pppd
6 x Night stay at Makolo Bay (11-16 June) @ R150pppd
A backup vehicle is available, and will be towing the club trailer. Each bike will pay R250 for the backup vehicle for 9 days.
Please let me know ASAP if you will be joining us for this GREAT Adventure to Mozambique!! There are only limited accommodations available and I need to confirm.
