I think I may have solved the problem we were having with the old forum, and the same counts here:
Problems Logging In
* I login fine, but when I click a link it logs me out!
Your browser is not accepting cookies properly. First check to make sure you have cookies enabled. Also, in Internet Explorer 6 you need to make sure that you have 3rd Party Cookies enabled.
Your members need to enable cookies, tell them to do the following:
o Click on tools on the menubar on your browser o Click on Internet Options on the drop menu o On the window that pops up, click on the privacy tab o Put the arrow and track so that the arrow is on low o Click ok
This will enable third party cookies:
o Click on tools on the menubar on your browser o Click on Internet Options on the drop menu o On the window that pops up, click on the security tab o Click on the custom button o On the little window that pops up, scroll down to where it says cookies, and make sure the radio button is in the enabled position o Click save
Hint: If the above didn't work try clicking "Always Stay Logged In" when you attempt to log in.

Your mileage may vary.... it seems that Microsoft change the way these things are set up with every different version of Internet Explorer. There is a much more detailed explanation of how to register and log in and solve login problems in this file: www.bmwclubs.co.za/pretoria/forum/login.pdfIt's quite big as it's full of pictures, and should take about 20 minutes to download. i suggest you right-click the link, and select "Save target as" to store it on your hard drive, rather than wait for it to appear in your browser.

Boy, did I have problems logging in after the upgrade! You can be recognised on log-in, but you can't get beyond a new stage. For security, there's an activation code for your re-admission. The blikbrein sends out your activation code as a scrambled alphanumeric code to your latest e-mail address...and that's where I DIDN'T GET IT...! Somehow, my e-mail server wouldn't allow it into my in-box. For days I tried over and over but no avail. So I set up a new Hotmail address with NO protection filters set. Then I changed my profile e-mail address to the new unfiltered one and asked to ' resend the activation code' . I went to the new address and VOILA - there was the message with my activation code. So now I knew who was sending me the activation code. (Remember to copy blikbrein's e-addy!) Now it gets nit-picky...! If you change your e-mail address, a NEW activation code is generated and is then sent to the revised address. So before I could restore my original e-mail address, I had to change the settings on the original address filters to accept ' blikbrein' as safe. On Hotmail you add the 'blikbrein' address (which I had copied!) to the SAFE LIST - thereby making it OK to receive e-mails from ' blikbrein' . Then I went back to the club website and changed the e-addy on my profile back again. The new activation code came through and I'm back again - except now my user name is all in lowercase for some reason...? COMPUTERS! BTW: If you have to do something similar, you'll find the whole process a lot easier if you can have the two sites open in separate windows at the same time and switch between them...

See that I have to login every time I visit the forum. There is not an option of automatic logon - or am I missing it. It happened again with this session

Jamie There is an option to "stay logged in for..." when you log in. One of the options is to stay logged in "forever" - try it - I hope it addresses your problem
