Art Lovers- August 04It takes a LOT for me to be impressed with a breakfast, How many combinations can Eggs & Bacon really have? BUT, this place was brilliant, Naan bread & polenta really changes a breakfast. It may be seen as a little on the costly side (Largest Breakfast-R38) But the food was top drawer, certainly the best breakfast I have had this year. The resturant itself is half art gallery half resturant, It's tranquil & extremely tastefull. Located on the main street, just after the 90deg L/hand corner with the Antique shop on it, 89 Bree Street. R/Hand side heading South. Well worth a visit. Parys is a lekker place for a Sunday run, 200km fro Pta, It's fast becoming the Cullinan of the South Lots of resturants, Art Galleries & Antique shops. Most advertising that they are "Biker Friendly" The only drawback seems to be NOTHING opens before 9:00am

I am pleased that you could get "stuck" into the breakfast ;D. I have been pondering a recce trip to Parys that would be interesting as a breakfst run but the routes seem few. Maybe Tarlton, Carletonville, Fochville, to Parys returning via the Barrage, vd Bijlpark and the deeeep south. Do you have a telephone number for this fine establishment? I have heard that the Mimosa on the banks of the river is also a good hangout.

Good Job I Picked Up A Brochure I'll bring it to the meeting. Hardwig Du Rand 082 492 6518 (056) 817-6515 Fax (056) 817-6518 artlovers@telkomsa.netAccording to the brochure, It seats 50 people so certainly not a HUGE place. I live in the Deeeeeep Souf so route is easier for me,although still as boring. It's a good road for "steeking" (avoid Meyerton & Vereeniging) apart from 10km of middelmannetjie rd around the N1 area, the rest of the roads are in excellant condition. I can easily recce any of the establishments with a camera if you wish- only 100km drive for me ;D

Interesting - I've been thinking along the same lines as well. many of our usual breakfast runs have become really old and stale. And Parys is a surprisingly lekker little town. I have been there a couple of times on the bike this year for work peurposes, and the N14 / R500 route (via Carltonville) is quite nice. Quiet roads, mostly of good quality, and a good ride. About 200km from Pta on that route, perfect distance before a well-earned breakfast. Even if one takes the same route home, it could be worth going a few kms out of the way to see the place where the deep lava welled out after the Vredefort meteor impacted. Quite a strange place.

Just another thought, Take the Delmas rd, Down to Villiers, Turn Right past the Vaal Dam to Dennysville, onto Sasolburg & into Parys. All those roads are in fair condition. I'm not sure of the mileage, but if your on a BMW who cares It's a differant trip or maybe a homeward trip

Yes we have gone to Parys a few times, great stretch before breakfast. I can recommend Mimosa - their food really is great and more than enough for the guys. Can be a bit boring the road, but with company it is great. Good idea for a breakfast run...... our GT does not appreciate the pussy footing around town !!
