My cousin and I took the route to Parys for a breakfast run on saterday morning, cold and windy but for the GSers is nothing new. I've told him about the Art lovers cafe in Parys, about their nice breakfast ( the info I've got from this site ). After 200km and a koffie at VAALdam we were looking forward to that breakfast. Stopped ,took of our kit, sat and ask for that lekke breakfast. Waitress replied "we don't serve breakfast", but it was only 10H30. She said they don't serve breakfast at all. So very dissapointed we mounted and idled through Parys looking for a breakfast. Then we saw it "DIE KOFFIEKAN" on a yellow banner. Excellent for only R 32 , the breakfast was 2 eggs,2 pieces of bacon,2 skaapworsies, , a piece of steak- lekke tender, chips , braaid tamato and some mushrooms, O and a big shooter glass of orange juice and 2 slices of toast. The service was not to bad either. So if you still want to go to Parys for a breakfast run , surely stop at the KOFFIEKAN , stuff the art lovers

Thanks Leroy for the Sunday's ride to Parys. Had a great days biking - just very disappointed with the Koffiekan. Have had breakfast there many times before and really enjoyed it. They obviously cant cope with large groups. Pity. Will go back , just in a smaller group. Had a very windy ride back. Almost got blown off the highway. Also had to look out for the cops hiding behind every bush !
Thanks again Leroy - was definitely worth getting up for ! Deon

Thanks Deon - am dissappointed myself - tried organising everything - seems one cannot think of everything. Problem came in when they started attending to casual walk in customers that came in after our arrival - thus we waited - precisely not what we wanted. Main issues here are the following: 1) Breakfast for large groups cannot be done off a menu - henceforth all clubrides must preferably be at venues with a buffet breakfast - speeds the process up, 2) The second rider must stop at the change of direction until he sees the sweep rider coming up, only then can he drive of - problem that cropped up - was mentioned Friday evening and Sunday Morning - to no avail - it happened again, 3) The riders must bunch up and try to keep a minimum gap of roughly 100 meters between yourself and the bike in front of you, if the guy directly in front of you allows the gap the increase more than this - pass him/her safely, and close the gap, thus the slower riders will fall back to ride in the back of the group, 4) We were not even gunning it as i am still running the bike in and at times we were doing less than 120km/h because of the aforementioned.
Lastly - the drive to Parys is quite nice - especially through the cradle - will however have to find another venue with a buffet breakfast in Parys - so seeing as you and Shaun regularly go there - any suggestions.
Regards and thanks for your comment - luckily the LT does not have the issue with the wind.

Jamie, I must admit. The BEST 2nd bike on a breakfast run is the K1200S ! You need to attend more runs ! We ( Shaun, Sam and I ) cheated a bit as we met the group in Magalies - closer to our homes. So we missed all the fun where people didnt stop and wait at intersections. From there onwards, the ride was fine. I agree with Leroy that to order from a Menu doesnt work with a large group. I just hate standing in a queue for my food - reminds me of the army days ! A large group is also not easy to manage, but once everyone finds there position in a group, it works quite well. Town riding with such a group is a disaster, but once out of the city, its a pleasure ! Great ride anyway ! Where's the next one to ?

Not sure if your meaning is good or bad ;D Look who's talking......this is the first one I missed in quite some time. Played golf out of town this weekend.......was not good (my golf that is) but that's a whole different story.

Chris on his R1100S did most of the direction change indications - as he would fall back and be on my wheel again at the next change. Excellent second rider to have on any clubride. DP bad news for you - seems as we will henceforth always have to be reminded our army days. At least the means of getting to our destination will be more enjoyable. Am leaving for St Lucia tomorrow on solo run - so we won't make the Midlands Meander or the K bike run. Hope enough clubmembers access the forum to pitch for Jamies K run. Regards and safe riding. We will introduce a system where the ride leader, the sweeper and some senior members all wear unique very visible reflective vests. The idea is that the senior members (two to four) will always fall in behind the leader. Where a change of direction occurs they will wait until they see the sweeper.
Due to the amount of bikes on the road it is happening that some of or members follow the wrong bike. Hopefully the unique vests will help improve identification and visibility.
We will test the new system and see if it is practical and effective as soon as we have our vests.

When visiting Die Koffiekan, you MUST try the Orange jam (whole pieces of orange with syrup). I normally eat tomato and Ina orange. We bought one bottle of each and now we go back at least once a month and my tomato jam is still to be opened! By the way, I can recommend a good gym for those who really love this jam!
