Do the other members think it's a good idea to store our runs as ROUTES and have them accessible for LOGGED-IN members to download and then to ride as and when they wish? (I wouldn't like all and sundry to download them to use for commercial ventures...) How about it, Webmaster...?

Good idea, I know that the routes provided by BMW at last years ABBG in Badplaas have come in very handy since !

Good idea. To extend on that, what about routes that other club members have ridden.
I have certainly found trip reports/routes by others useful when planning trips - places they have gone to etc.
There are so many places to see in this country and other peoples routes can certainly be useful.
I used part of a route from a Bike SA report in our recent trip to the Buffalo in March to quote one example.

Having a database of rides is a good idea because it assists those who may not know the country well to plan rides in the future. Regarding exclusivity it is my view that a lot can be learnt from commercial tour operators who plan and research routes. South Africa is not such a big place so there is not much sense in trying to hide the routes we ride - you can hardly hide the Sabie area's routes from commercial tour operators. If we share our riding pleasure with other motorcylists because our routes are well planned and publicised we will attract people to the club. A perfect example of sharing can be found with the following website listing California's best motorcycle roads. www.pashnit.com/motoroads.htmAnother example is www.dealsgap.com where you can learn about riding "The Dragon" Lets us live our values and Share

Ok - so what is stopping us from doing it. Would be more than willing to post all my route plans - for clubrides and single rides for all to use. LeRoy

We will need a place where we can upload the routes in .gdb format. Not sure if this is possible on the web?? On the other hand the club is about shared riding pleasure and not being a route library. So if you want to know our routes, come ride with us

Most of the recent rides this year have a detailed itinerary and a GPS route discrption. These two files can be "catalogued" together on a web page for future reference.

There's a start towards the logging of routes. Go to the EVENTS page of this website. www.bmwclubs.co.za for those that are used to go direct to the forum!! There is a link to the ROUTES . . . Think it can work?! We will of course need the cooperation of ride leaders/members to provide the details in order to build up a proper database of rides and routes.

It works. Thanks Dani. Only problem is everybody can download them. Maybe need a login mechanism to control access
