Hey everybody,
I've had my red/grey RT since October, but the weather here in Oregon hasn't cooperated much since then. Weather just now warming up into riding range.
Question is: Has anyone tried one of those other (bigger) windshields yet? They make taller ones, wider ones and some that are both. I think they even make a shorter one.
I sold my K12LT to buy the RT and the only thing the LT did better was protect yer bucket from buffetting.
ciao, Chris

I'm 6'3" and so the standard shield is a bit short for me. Even in the high position, with seat low, I get wind on the helmet.
I fitted a CeeBailey, same size, but it has the lip on the top edge. In the low position it gives me the same protection the original offered in the high position, so a very worthwhile buy.

What price are we looking at, and where can one get hold of one?

Touratech (Stephen King) holds the SA agency for CeeBailey - I paid R1800. Cheaper than the orignal part! www.touratechsa.co.za

Hi
I've used the Marathon Screen from Wunderlich for a while now, it's OK at spring and autumn driving as the protection is better. For summer riding the original is OK.
However, the plastic in the Wunderlich screen is a little sensitive to scratches and need polishing from time to time.

Hi Guys
I'm 6'6'' tall and encountered the same problem of wind on my helmet. Ig at Bavarian, Pretoria RSA ordered me the larger unit at over R3300 a piece but it is worth every cent. Now I can sit comfortably in the high position and have done over 45000km with mine. Even had it transferred to my new RT that I have done 14400km in 4 months.
Only problem that you need to expect: With the increased wind force on the screen the top links tend to break. I have lost two over about 3 months. The first was replaced under guarantee but then the agents got clever. I had to pay for the second due to the larger screen mod. I made two units from mild steel and no problems since.
Safe riding

Hi Tj I ordered mine, the wider and taller one. I should get it later this week or early next week. Can't wait to test it.
I had some aftermarket very big screen that was great but it blurred my view a bit so I had to bring it down to the lowest adjustment in traffic for my own safety.

I have a larger Cee Bailey and I love it. I think any larger windshield is fine. It is true the upper support struts, being made of cheap pot metal, will break under the stress. Mine just broke last week. Rather than replace them with the stock units, I am ordering stronger aluminum (or do you guys say "aluminium"?) supports from this manufacturer in the US: tinyurl.com/2tpj4mRobo

I got my OE tall & wide screen now. It's only 50mm taller than standard and the wider part I can't see. Visibility is much better than I had (very little distortion) but its too small for my taste. Even at the highest setting the rain still hit your helmet, with just enough force to stay right there and give zero visibility so I had to put the screen down and face the rain.
My advice: Stay Away

Hey Johan,
That's dissapointing to have spent the money and not like the screen. The Cee Bailey I have was a +3 inch (so what, 75mm?). I ended up cutting off about 1.5 inches but it does have the curved lip which really deflects a lot of air. When in full up position, which I never use, it's like looking out a window in your house! I use it in low, and about mid, lift positions.

Here's a how to on installing the much stronger windshield brackets and also how to cut your windshield smaller if you wish. I had a much too large Cee Bailey that I've cut to a smaller size. Robo tinyurl.com/2rq56j

Hi All I read someone complains about the distortion of the perspex screens. That is true as I have never found a perspex screen to be as clear as glass. My experience with the larger screen is not to look through it but just over it. There is still no wind thust on my helmet in this position, even in raining conditions. During lane splitting in peak traffic I lower the screen well down to jugde the clearances through traffic. Hope this works for you too.
