I have the opportunity to buy a low km 2001 R1100RT at a very good price.
I have read the specs. But specs is no substitute for experience, which I dont have with the RT's.
Should I save up for the 1200? Is the 1200 worth twice the money? Would those that have ridden both please advise me as to the riding experience. We do many breakfast runs and a couple of tours per year, I also commute daily. The 650 GS is a great commuter but tiresome on the long runs. Unfortunately I cant keep the 650 if I buy the RT.
Thanx

Hi there
I had a R1100Rt and changed to 1200RT two seasons ago. Would not dream to go back to the old 1100RT.
The difference is so great in many respects, that if you have a chance to purchase the new one, DO IT.
Greetings from Norway, with "green" winter.

I purchased a '06 R1200RT earlier this month. It's the most I've ever spent on a motorcycle, however I heard these bikes were the best around and thought I'ld take the chance. It handles different than the other motorcycles I've owned, and I'm still trying to get use to it. So far, I must say I'm pleased. Paul :>)

Save up for the 1200 it is worlds apart from the 1100 or 1150 for that matter. You'll probably regret buying the 1100 because although there is nothing wrong with the bike as such it will not exite you in the way a 1200 can. The 1100 can be a little boring... IMHO

I bought my 1100 a couple of weeks ago, I've tested the 1200 and there is no comparison BUT there is also no comparison in price.
If you can afford the 1200 buy it. If not the 1100 Is a great bike. I had a choice, ad the 1100 to my other toys or sell one of my other toys and buy the 1200. I decided more is better and bought the 1100. ;D
There is no sense in buying the 1200 and not have the money to enjoy it. Go for the 1100 and replace it with a 1200 when you're ready.
