I don't know how many of you are aware of the fact that Brian Cannoo, known to the biking world as Buccaneer, passed away on Monday 18 February. He was involved in an accident on Saturday (16 Feb) when a bus made an illegal U-turn in front of him and three other members of the Think Bike campaign. He jumped off before his new RT hit the bus, but he was seriously injured - broken pelvis and severe bruising to the heart. He was admitted to a hospital and was kept drugged in the hope that his condition will improve. Sadly his condition deteriorated from Sunday night and he passed away at 12:33 on Monday. We have lost a brother and a champion for safer biking. Ride the skyways, Bucc! God speed! BMWfan Réhann Coetzee Committee member for media Think Bike Safety Awareness Campaign

I hadn't been monitoring this board for some time and only looked in after I received a surprising but very welcome email birthday greeting. Then I noticed the news - the awful news.
I came to this board originally, because I had a problem which literally no one in the world had an answer to except Buccaneer (see Topic: 'unit conversion') and it was only the result of his confident insistence that I was finally able to penetrate the official BMW mis-information and find the solution I was looking for. Buccaneer (and I only knew him by that name) was not like any of my urbane and buttoned-down friends, but I could tell instantly by his couple posts to me (and the the hundreds to others) that he was a good man. He will be missed even by strangers on the other side of the globe that he never met and I can only begin to imagine the loss that you are feeling there.

Greetings!
Greetings from me, his other brother Stephen and his parents Gerard and Babs.
Thank you all most sincerely for your messages and kind words. Both Brian and I have been motorcyclists for a long time, more than 30 years in my case and we all grieve when one of us leaves the rest of the two wheelers behind. It's just worse when it's direct family.
Please keep me informed of any events that may be taking place? If there's a memorial or get together or similar, some of his direct relations would love to attend. My private email is gerard@cannoo.co.za and my telephone number is 082-994-3425.
PLEASE keep me informed of anything happening.
Regards
Gerard

This is so very sad. I only knew him from his posts, but that was enough. I will miss him.
